Meet Sabka.
Sabaudin Grigor Aleksi Xhaferi, affectionately known by his artistic moniker ”Sabka”, was born in Tirana, Albania, in 1936. From an early age, Sabka exhibited a profound affinity for the arts, which led him to pursue formal training at the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts in Tirana. Graduating in 1967, he honed his craft in fine art painting, a discipline in which he would become renowned.
Sabka’s career was marked by both national and international acclaim. Since becoming a member of the League of Writers and Artists of Albania in 1969, he actively participated in various art competitions, securing 27 awards for his exceptional works in fine arts, caricatures, and scene paintings. His talent transcended national borders, earning him recognition in countries such as Canada, Italy, Greece, Japan, Germany, Turkey, Bulgaria, and Yugoslavia.
Sabka's art was celebrated for its vivid imagination and profound commentary, qualities that resonated with audiences globally. His ability to capture the essence of human experience and emotion in his artwork earned him a respected place in the international art community.
In his later years, Sabka continued to contribute to the arts from his base in the United States. His relocation did not diminish his passion or output; instead, it enriched his perspective and allowed him to integrate diverse cultural elements into his work.
Sabka's life and career were not only defined by his artistic achievements but also by his deep familial bonds. He was a beloved husband to Katerina Aleksi Xhaferi, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage, and a dedicated father to his children, Doreida, Odris, and Laert, as well as a doting grandfather to Orielle Dior.
His passing on November 25, 2015, marked the end of an era for the international art scene. Sabka's legacy continues to live on through his profound contributions to the arts and the indelible impact he left on his family and admirers worldwide.
